Design: Finngulf 46 is the flagship of the company and has been especially designed for ocean sailing. When designing Mearra Nieida in 2002-2003, many customizations and details were executed to make the yacht suitable for ocean cruising passages and harsh conditions. The boat was designed by Karl-Johan Stråhlmann. Skipper Pekka Salonoja was involved in the design and manufacturing process of the boat, in order to tailor-made the boat for circumnavigation and ocean sailing.
History of the Boat: After the test sails and final refurbishments were carried out during 2003 and 2004, Mearra Nieida left Finland in the summer of 2004. She sailed to Portugal and from there to the Canary Islands, to take part in her first trans-Atlantic race in November 2004. In the spring of 2005, Mearra Nieida was sailed back to Europe and her homeport was set in Lagos, Portugal. From Portugal Mearra Nieida was sailed to Croatia, where she was docked from 2005 until 2007. From 2008 until 2015, Mearra Nieida has been ported in various ports in the Mediterranean Sea: Greece, Croatia, Malta. In the summer of 2015, Mearra Nieida left the Mediterranean to start her circumnavigation from the Canary Islands.
WARC 2016: Mearra Nieida is taking part in the WARC 2016-2017 circumnavigation, which will finish in St Lucia in the Caribbean in April 2017. The crew on-board for the entire circumnavigation is skipper Pekka Salonoja, joined by Jukka Auramo and Jaana Auramo. A large team of almost 40 leggers are joining the voyage with family and friends following closely and reading the popular travel blog – the adventure across the globe has been extensively followed, around the world!
